About Us
FirstStaff History
FirstStaff was created by a group of experienced human resource professionals who recognized a statewide demand for a high-quality, highly-efficient staffing service with a focus on keeping customers and employees satisfied. Our team brings a wide range of expertise and unlimited potential to meet the employment needs of both businesses and job seekers, and, with locations in Little Rock, Hot Springs, Fort Smith, and Benton, FirstStaff has the ability to service customer accounts and promote job candidates throughout Arkansas.
FirstStaff was the result of a merger between two Arkansas-based staffing companies. Effective January 1, 2007, SkillSpan Staffing and The Staffing Factor joined to form a new corporation, FirstStaff, Inc., pooling their staff, talents, and collective experience to fill the void caused by something that was missing in Arkansas: a locally-owned, service-driven staffing company willing to go the extra mile to put customers and jobs seekers first.
FirstStaff ownership, management and staff represent a strong and established dedication to the staffing industry. Ed and Steve Schulte have a prestigious and renowned history and are highly respected in the business community in Arkansas. The Schulte’s first staffing business venture was ProStaff, initially founded by Ed in 1973 and joined in 1987 by Steve. ProStaff operated 25 branches across Arkansas and was one of the initial staffing companies to execute a merger and public offering that formed Staffmark, Inc. in 1996. Our owners, management, and staff collectively possess a mastery of many different fields, degrees, certifications, and hands-on experience and represent professionalism at its best, all of which combine to make our customers’ and job seekers’ experience with FirstStaff nothing but first rate.

Steve Schulte, President of FirstStaff, has been active in the Arkansas business community for a number of years. With a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Arkansas, as well as a Juris Doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law, Steve has a long and impressive academic career that enhances his ability to better serve FirstStaff's customers and employees. Steve’s leadership at companies such as ProStaff and Staffmark paved the way for his efforts to build a locally-based, service-oriented staffing firm with the ability to serve businesses through the state. With this goal in mind, Steve led the activities that formed FirstStaff following a January 2007 merger between SkillSpan Staffing and The Staffing Factor. Steve is an active and award-winning member of the Society for Human Resource Management, serving as a previous State Director of the organization. He has been a member of the Arkansas Staffing Association as well as the Central Arkansas Human Resources Association, serving as president of both organizations. Steve is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and was named as one of Arkansas Business’ 40 Under 40. He is a practicing attorney in Central Arkansas and a licensed member of the Arkansas Bar Association. Through his law practice, Steve focuses on labor and employment law, human resource consulting, business planning and transactions, and estate planning. A believer in community involvement, Steve is also the Vice President of the Humane Society of Pulaski County, an association which has introduced his home to more animals than he ever intended. Steve takes a hands-on approach at FirstStaff and would be happy to visit with potential customers to share why FirstStaff is Arkansas’s first choice for staffing.

Holley Little has invested fifteen years building long-lasting relationships with the Central Arkansas business community. Holley, a graduate of Henderson State University with a degree in Communications, began her staffing career in 1994 with ProStaff as a Staffing Supervisor for industrial placement in Little Rock. Soon she became a Regional Recruiter, and after ProStaff transitioned to Staffmark, Holley was promoted to the position of Area Manager for Little Rock/North Little Rock/Hot Springs, which included several large on-site programs and retailers. In 2002, her career brought her to SkillSpan Staffing, where she helped expand the business from one Little Rock location to five Central Arkansas branches and two large on-sites. Holley particularly enjoys the day-to-day contact with customers and employees. She’s learned that trust is the key to a great business relationship and recognizes that all customers have a choice. She’s determined to provide a level of service that brings customers to FirstStaff again and again. Holley is involved in CAHRA as the organization’s current President. She is also involved in ARSHRM as Foundation Director and is an alumnus of Leadership Saline County. She also is a board member with the Benton Chamber of Commerce, the Saline County Boys and Girls Club, and a member of the Saline County Executive Association. Her work philosophy: "By taking care of our employees and customers, they will in turn take care of us. This enables us to do what many working people do not get to do: make a living while making a difference."

bborland@firststaffstaffing.com
Bryan Borland and our team of specialists are willing to go the extra mile to make sure that when you think of staffing, you think of FirstStaff. Bryan graduated from Hendrix College in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Post-graduation, Bryan was recruited by Monticello attorney (and now Circuit Court Judge) Kenneth Johnson to serve as Johnson’s lead paralegal. In that role, Bryan was included as a part of a successful criminal defense and civil litigation team and assisted on numerous high-profile cases at both the state and federal level, including Pope County’s widely publicized Dirksmeyer murder case, which was featured on CNN, Fox News, CBS’s 48 Hours, and Dateline NBC. A desire to return to Central Arkansas and a shifting interest toward human resources brought Bryan to the staffing industry and FirstStaff, where he implements, oversees, and manages company-wide projects while promoting development through creative recruiting and marketing strategies. Bryan also continues legal work as part of FirstStaff CEO Steve Schulte’s law practice, which includes civil, probate, and domestic relations work. An avid writer, Bryan’s first book, My Life as Adam, was published by Sibling Rivalry Press in 2010.
